The Chef’s Answer
The market for food is the same as any fair market. The prices are controlled by supply and demand. In the winter, many of us naturally crave warm comfort foods like roasts, cabbages, potatoes, carrots, and other root vegetables. In the summer we may crave lighter more acidic foods like berries, melons, fish, seafood, tomatoes, and bell peppers. The way to save cash in this area is to think ahead!! Right now, shop for steaks, chicken breasts, and pork chops. These meats can be $1- $3 per pound less expensive now than they will be in the summer months. Stock up, package them well and freeze. In the summer, buy your roasts and braising meats. This will save up to $3 a pound also. That makes a big difference!
